Poet and educator, Steven Ratiner’s performance style and ability to connect with audiences have made his readings and workshops celebrations of the communal power of the written word. He has worked in collaboration with jazz and classical musicians, dance companies and visual artists to create large-scale multi-discipline artworks and events. Mr. Ratiner’s writing programs highlight the creative ability that is inherent in all individuals. Since 1978, he has been a poet-in-resident in over 250 elementary and secondary schools throughout New England, offering students and teachers a spirited introduction to the poet's craft, grounded in their own sense of language, rhythm and personal experience. He has also developed a wide range of workshops that combine poetry with other subject areas including: Ancient China and East Asian culture; the visual arts; music; history and the social sciences. He’s offered extensive professional development training for teachers and graduate students.
