Description
Veteran jazz saxophonist and composer Paul Combs presents thematic performances such as the work of a particular composer or composers, or music from a particular time period. He performs with three different ensembles: the 9-piece Pocket Big Band, joined on occasion by jazz vocalist Lydia Fortune, the quintet Tadd;s Delight, which celebrates the music of Tadd Dameron, and a jazz ensemble that ranges in size from 2 - 5. In connection with his research into the music of Tadd Dameron, for a book to be published by University of Michigan Press in 2009 or 2010, he also offers a residency for school jazz bands. In this program he leads the students through performances of several of Dameron's own scores, some of them never recorded and not known to the general public.
